About Liverpool

Based in the heart of North-West England, Liverpool is a world city of international renown, with its instantly recognisable waterfront, unique accent and famous sons & daughters. The waterfront area attracts millions of visitors each year to admire the rejuvenated Albert Dock, home to the Tate Gallery and Maritime Museum, and to take a trip on the famous Mersey Ferry. A range of theatres offer first class productions to rival London's West End and many people visit Liverpool for its exciting nightlife. The city centre has a wide choice of cafes, bars, pubs and clubs. Mathew Street, the home of the Cavern Club, still attracts thousands of Beatles fans from all over the world.
 
The city is alive with musicians, poets, writers, artists, painters, sculptors, designers and architects -further enhancing its image as a European city of culture. Liverpool has three universities; The University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University and Liverpool Hope University.
 
Liverpool is also a serious sporting city. Liverpool and Everton football clubs are renowned the world over. Liverpool is also home to the world's most famous horse race, the Grand National at Aintree.
 

Transportation


Situated in the North-west of England, Liverpool has good access by road, rail and air.
 
The M62 connects Liverpool directly to the M6, which in turn provides access to several of the UK's major Airports; London Heathrow, Stanstead and Gatwick - via the M1 and M25; Luton and East Midlands airports via the M6 and M1; Bristol via the M5 and Manchester via the M62.
 
There are 2 airports that are convenient for the venue; Liverpool's John Lennon Airport is approximately 8 miles from the city centre and Manchester International Airport is a 35 mile (55km) road journey or 1 hr 10 minutes by train. Both airports service many European destinations as well as some international flights (the latter mainly to Manchester International Airport).
 
Airlines using Liverpool's John Lennon Airport include easyJet, Ryanair, Aerlingus, Air Wales, VLM Airlines, Flybe and Wizz Air. Airlines using Manchester International Airport include British Airways, Air Canada, Iberia, Lufthansa, Olympic, SAS, Air France, Continental, Delta, Virgin Atlantic, American Airlines and Finair.
 
Taxis and hire cars are available from both Liverpool's John Lennon Airport and Manchester International Airport. Public transport links to Liverpool are frequent. MerseyTravel operates regular services between Liverpool Airport and the city centre; there is a bus stop on this route directly outside the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Liverpool's Lime Street Station is only 20 minutes walk from the venue and with a journey time of approximately 4 hrs offers a direct links to the major London Rail Terminuses and the UK national rail network.

Delegates are requested to make use of public transport or taxis where possible. Car parking at the Crowne Plaza is very limited and expensive, as is everywhere around Albert Docks. All of the venues are within easy walking distance of the hotel.
 
A free bus transfer will be provided from the Crowne Plaza Hotel to St. George's Hall for delegates attending the symposium dinner.

Accommodation

mersey partnership In conjunction with the Mersey Partnership a range of hotels are being made available to delegates at special ESMATS 2007 symposium rates.

Delegates who register for ESMATS 2007 via this website prior to the Symposium will be given a password with their receipt which will give them access to special rates being offered and allow hotels to be booked on-line via the Mersey Partnership web site. Delegates should note that rooms at discounted rates are limited and will not be held indefinitely. To take advantage of the discount delegates should BOOK EARLY to secure a room AND the special discount rate.

Once registered to book your hotel, please visit the official service for ESMATS 2007 accommodation. This is the official service recommended for delegates as it will allow you to book accommodation at a variety of local hotels at discounted rates.
You will be given 2 options with regards to payment for your hotel reservation:
  • CREDIT/DEBIT CARD RESERVATIONS:- A valid card number is required to guarantee your reservation. No payment will be taken prior to your stay unless otherwise stated within venue description. Non-arrivals or failure to cancel a reservation may be subject to a cancellation charge.
  • PRO-FORMA INVOICE RESERVATIONS:- Payment must be received by the accommodation provider at least 2 weeks before your arrival.
